Mood difficulties

Mood difficulties involve a full range of disturbances ranging from the extreme sadness and disengagement of depression to the extreme euphoria and irritability of mania.

Depression

The symptoms of depression such as weariness, lethargy, loss of interest, loss of motivation, loss of pleasure, and indecisiveness can lead to inactivity; which often keeps the depression going or even make it worse. As a result, he or she may neglect day to day tasks and responsibilities at work or at home. The worklist keeps piling up and, eventually, one feels overwhelmed. The person may have guilt feeling and believes that one is a failure. This will worsen the depression.

Anxiety

Normal worry is relatively short-term and leads to positive behavior of solving problems. Worry becomes unhelpful when it occurs repeatedly and there are about many things, and it is difficult to control or dismiss. Symptoms may include feeling restless, physical tension, sleep disturbance, difficult to concentrate, feeling irritable and feeling exhausted easily.

Low self-esteem

Low self-esteem is a general overall negative judgment or evaluation of oneself as a person. For example: “I couldn’t understand what the teacher was saying today. I must be really stupid.” “I’m overweight. I am so fat and ugly.” “I’m a useless person.” “I’m a loser.” “I’m unlovable.” “I’m not good enough.”

Because of the deep-seated negative belief about oneself, it has a negative effect on the person and their life.
